Background
Rui Goncalves Oliveira is CEO of BFA Gestão de Activos (Asset Management) , the asset management arm of the second-largest private bank in Angola. He joined the Board of BFA Asset Management in 2017 and serves as Co-CIO, managing a $500M portfolio in fixed income and alternative credit. He is an independent investor in financial markets with more than 10 years of experience and a columnist for a leading Angolan business and economic newspaper. With nearly two decades of experience, he has executed over $8B in transactions across public and private markets in Southern Africa. Rui previously worked at Citigroup and Morgan Stanley, managed $400M in assets, and consulted for the UN FAO.
He has held senior roles driving institutional investment performance and has been instrumental in positioning BFA Asset Management as a key player in Angola’s rapidly growing financial sector. Rui combines technical expertise in global financial instruments with a strong focus on regional market development, unlocking opportunities that connect Africa to international capital flows.
Beyond his professional endeavors, Rui also serves on several international non-profit boards. Rui is an advocate for education and African economic development. He serves as Chair of the Finance & Investment Committee for the Berkeley College Foundation Board and has been an active member of the Berkeley College Alumni Association for over eight years. His commitment to mentorship and financial literacy extends to his role as a mentor for The Founder Institute and the Oxford Business Alumni Network
